Absolutely. It's best to put these 2 items together (Elf Cave and Cannon), as mentioned in this thread:

When you visit someone, you receive double on only these 2 items. Also, your neighbor will benefit with bells every time a visitor taps these. This seems to be the only way to directly help neighbors, other than the handshakes resetting their timers for cash as usual. This is a win win strategy with a double payout when compared to any other structure or item. Best to make multiple visits and only look for these, if possible.

I have a dilemma on this: after reaching the maximum of Elf Bells from visiting neighbor daily, should I continue to tap on the cannons and the elf caves? The positive side will be giving my own neighbor 5 bells for each tap; the negative side will be depriving other neighbors of my own neighbor the chances to get double bells while I have no benefit to myself. So what do you think?

So far, I have tapped those whenever I have the chances, no matter I get elf bells in return or not. Am I doing it "correctly"?
