If enough people got donuts and premium items for free it could cut into EA's profits. This would result in them raising the prices on donuts and premium items. I think Luci's opinion is just as important as someone who has hacked. You shouldn't try to dismiss it just because you disagree.chrisp530 wrote:LuciiTigger14 wrote:

Yeah, cause I'm sure you've never downloaded music to your computer, or watched a bootleg dvd, or streamed a movie in line. In fact, you're probably perfect, and never done anything wrong in your life. So please, stay up there on your high horse, and keep judging others like this effects your life in any way shape or form. How sad and empty can someones life be that they care what happens to other people?? I don't care who gets banned, who doesn't, who hacks, or who doesn't, because IT DOESN'T EFFECT MY LIFE. I worry about myself, not others, you should try it.
Very well stated, chrisp...I used the same digital music comparison on another site. If you choose to hack the game, great...if you don't, wonderful...more power to you. I don't care either way. It's your own individual choice how you want to play and it doesn't affect me one way or another. Complaining about people using hacks comes off like sour grapes from people who want items they can no longer get to me. Otherwise, why would you bother complaining about it? Just enjoy your game and move on.
I think this is closer to reality:
A very, very, VERY small percentage of TSTO players hack. Many of these people who hack would likely never spend much, if any, money in the game in the first place. So how much is EA really losing? It's not the same as going into a store and stealing merchandise...it's not as if someone who wants to legitimately purchase donuts is prevented from doing so (which is not to say the act is any more right or wrong).
So let's talk about EA's profits...TSTO is one of, if not THE highest grossing app game there is these days. What was it, $23M in just the first quarter...and that's just with iOS! In July, Cnet had it listed as the eighth highest grossing iPhone app EVER (and that's only in 16 months, including all the time the game was made unavailable to new players!) Point being, EA is raking it in big time and it is continuing to grow daily as new players join the fray. They're making more off the game every day, hacks or not. I really don't think they're even that concerned about it, actually...as long as it's a small percentage of individuals hacking their private games (which it is, for the most part), it's not worth the effort to do something about it from a financial sense (GameZino scenarios, on the other hand, are a different story). Banning these users can only hurt their sales as a good deal of these users are also game system owners who likely purchase other EA games, so I feel that's not a likely option either these days (which is not to say it couldn't happen either...it was different during the game's initial run, where they were dealing with a much smaller pool of gamers and a buggy game that was costing them a fortune, and this is the time frame where most of the bans I've heard about came from).
As for them raising prices because of hacking? They're doing it anyway and WOULD do it anyway. The game's profits would have to take a major hit before this can truly be considered a viable situation. And, if you think about it, you could also look at digital music as an example of the opposite happening! The price of albums has been slashed as a result of internet piracy. Gone are the days of a new album costing you almost $20...most every one goes for around $10 now, and tons of older titles run between $5-7 (both hard & digital copies). Would this have been the case had it not been for digital music and piracy? Doubtful. Will that situation parallel itself here? I can't say (obviously).
I wasn't dismissing Lucci's opinion (and it's unfortunate that it's her post that gets caught up in this as she's not the only one who is vocal in complaining) just because I disagree with her...I wasn't dismissing it at all. What I was doing was simply saying that people would be much better off just minding their own business.
It won't matter much soon anyway. Once Level 33 comes out, it's going to kill most every hack out there. Since spAnser is out of the hack game and it seems like his hack was by far the most prevalent out there, many people's hacking days will be over.
