Wonder how many are in that teenage, whining, demanding-things-for-free, don't-believe-in-work-ethic group. (Annette waves to kids.) (Of all ages.) :) - This is kind of crossing a line, in my opinion. It's fine to disagree and all (I know I disagree with many of the OP's viewpoints and I even took part in some thread-jacking of my own here), but this now feels kind of mean.
Can a moderator lock this or something? It's like watching a boxing match with the opponent bleeding on the canvas. drumnman wrote:

People shouldn't complain that they didn't get free stuff but the root of most of the complaints I've read over the last month hasn't been "more free stuff". It's change. People hate change, no matter what the change is, generally speaking. And this event represented a major departure from previous ones.
I'm freemium and had cleared Halloween, Christmas and Valentines. I didn't clear this event. Not that I, personally, care, but it is a change. And change is almost always horrible for people. There is no more cogent an example than grocery bags - when plastic bags first came out people were all "where's my paper? give me paper! Plastic is stupid". Now we see communities banning plastic bags (like my city) and the majority of the complaints about it that I saw were "where's my plastic? give me plastic! Paper and reusable bags are stupid!
FWIW - I didn't think the OP was too wordy - about 1400 words. It took me all of 4 minutes to read. Which I can spare. Because working actually sucks.
Its not even the change. Its the fact that people have spend money on this game and just keep getting really lousy prizes. The overall way this whole event was made was just really made for one purpose. Making as much money as possible.
People are okay with spending money as long asthey get something nice in return. If they wouldve made Shary Bobbins a premium character, a lot of people would have bought her and nobody had complained about it. This event made you work really hard for just a tiny chance of winning even 1 premium character. If you didnt win her and you decided to buy donuts and eggs to get Shary ( or any other prize for that matter ),most of the time people ended up with a lot of easter ponds and egg piles. That is definitely not the reason people buy donuts and off course EA knows that.
Thats what bugged people. And imo they had every right to complain. It doesnt necessarely have something to do with a new "lazy generation" that arent pleased with free stuff. Ive seen people of all ages complaining. Generations that have grown up with and without computers and smartphones.
And another thing: there's no such thing as free games. EA didnt make a free game for all of us to enjoy out of their kind hearts. Its just another business product, like any other. With costumers like any other. If it was a free game, all content would be free. If nobody would spend money on this game they would have pulled the plug a ong time ago.

Thoroughly enjoyed your post, emymarek. I'm older, but most of those things amazed me as well. (Recent story I heard. Kid telling his mom about a new cell phone accessory. A long cord to attach the phone to the wall. So the phone is always in the same place. You'd always know where the phone is. Plus you can leave it attached to the wall while you're talking). . :)
On the topic of appreciating things that are free ... I'm in agreement ... But in THIS case, the complaints weren't about that. They were over the expectation that a game -- free or not -- ought to be FAIR.
Setting aside the whole odds on gambling issue ...
What had most of us upset were things that would have bothered even my generation. A game process that, when followed, sent us over a cliff. No warning that EA would accept real money for a basket that vanished without warning. In 65 years, I have NEVER seen that occur.
No warning that finishing the optional quest stopped baskets from coming -- theres that cliff. Also no clue given by EA of the guaranteed number of boxes to win characters, and the list goes on. ALL of those things were only discovered by us because we happen to be in this small forum, with a couple people to sneak into EAs code.
The complaints were not about a free game that we should be grateful. The complaints were about an unfair game. That's something that didn't start with this generation. If we're invited to play a game, we expect it to be fair. Whether it was kids playing street football for free during our childhoods, or a game that costs money. We expect it to be playable and reasonably winnable. Real life isn't fair. That's why we play games. We want to escape from real life. In the play world we want fair.- mwdaltonNew SpectatorYou know, we've had a lot of fun tonight at the expense of the U.S.Navy. But they're out there every day protecting us from Godzilla. And don't forget pirates. And jellyfish. Those whack invertebrates will sting you, old school!
