I've been playing for just over a year and am somewhat in the same position as OP after expoliting a glitch for a few weeks that allowed me to jump from about $40M (with tons of land and aspirational items unpurchased), just over 1,000 donuts, and just over 500% to now having over $2.76B, no land or aspirational items left to buy (other than the last $55M on Road to Riches which I'll finish in the next few days), a little over 16,900 donuts, and 779%.
The problem for me is that my bonus % still isn't THAT high and even though I have 310 or so characters, I don't have a ton of buildings, so I'm only making about 80-100 donuts/day via KEM farming and 4-hr playing cycles. At these rates, my donut and cash supply will both run out if I just get every premium item every event (which I want to be able to do without worry). I know the obvious solution is to spend a few thousand donuts on mystery boxes, but I hate the thought of adding any more mystery box clutter than I already did to get the last 200+% bump. I already dislike the billboards and news vans I have, let alone the atrocious Lard Lad farm (which I can't bear to store when I know it's a somewhat substantial part of my current income). Likewise, adding lots of some other item (e.g. jet bikes) isn't particularly appealing either. Tons and tons of the same item can only be hidden/worked into a design so much before it looks unnatural to a town.
Any advice as to how to break free from the grind? Or am I condemned to a life of KEM/RTT farming until I either (1) accept even more mystery box clutter or (2) play for substantially longer such that enough new bonus % items are released that I get my % up to a more sustainable level?
