I believe it's a part of the commentary of the game and society, to paraphrase the Dunkin Donuts jingle, The world runs on Dunkin (coffee)! So that's what is needed most in jobs. Then you could say coffee is the gateway drug to pills; growing up/older, maturing to pills and then running on pills. It's a social commentary like the Simpsons always have been. So I don't think it's an oversight at all to have those be the building blocks, and most used items.
New England certainly runs on Dunkin! There's one on nearly every corner. I think they are really stretching it though to say that the world runs on it.
