I think it's clear that EA has started to pump out more and more donut-required limited items to balance the fact donuts are easier to get "free" than in the past. It's not a bad idea: it allows more people to get a taste of premium items but still forces actual donut purchases for most players.
Yes, there are some players with so much cash - and such a high multiplier - that they'll never have to buy donuts again, but they're in the vast minority.
I've been a VERY active player for almost 4 years and I can't get all the limited premium content without actually purchasing donuts...
