I normally sort my town by districts (Industrial, Entertainment, Residential, etc).

I'd consider my Springfield fairly tidy although during an event you will find a dumping ground for the new items as I tend not to decide what I'm doing with them until the event is over

Only during an event. I have sections so it makes placing things easier. Every once in a while I will re-decorate a section of a new big item is introduced.

Remember when your inventory had just a few trees and extra fences? I used almost every decoration for the first couple of years. Maybe it was a competitive thing to show my neighbors that I had completed events. But now, my inventory is packed to the ceiling with odd assortments of random weirdness. It's become so much easier to just highlight almost all new event content and send it straight to inventory. Bah-bye.

Your Inventory sounds less like a closet, and more like something the American Pickers would dive into (if you watch them/heard of them).

Look; here's something from the Easter Event in 2014! Chilling right next to a Dark Carriage from the 2017 THOH event. And next to that is an extra Pride Flag!

It's sort of a mess. I definitely don't have every area "designed" Just sort of placed in a disorganized fashion. I feel more overwhelmed when I look at my town. Because I don't have enough of a item cap to design, and each time I do I can't seem to design it properly.....like my Xmas area I set up, it looks like shit.
