If the trend of the fleet a pita continues where you need to buy a premium to access further free stuff it may contribute to me putting the game down once and for all.
I think the "fairness" of that model depends on your perspective. If you don't buy the premium stuff (I haven't bought the cracker factory yet), then you're missing out on free stuff, which does seem unfair. But, if you spend the donuts, then you're getting more for your money, which makes it better value. I would suspect that EA have done it that way to encourage donut spend... the Cracker Factory started what seems to be a major questline that integrates well into the level questline, and gives bonus free stuff... that sounds like a pretty tempting purchase to me. Not so much "bonus" content but "you're missing out without it" content, which is a much easier sell.
well as a non donut purchaser it makes me very cross. The prices now are ridiculous with little hope of saving up for most of the stuff. I've been very disappointed with this update especially the amount of 24hr quests one after another.
I dunno, I'd rather have a 24-hour quest than a 12-hour quest pop up at, say, 3pm. Otherwise I have to delay it until it'll end when I'm actually awake, and that's "dead time".
It would be nice if there were some more middle-priced donut items, though. That way those who really save (or choose to buy) can splurge on the bigger ones to show off, and those who don't can get something more worthwhile and interesting than a billboard. It might also lead to more sales for EA, for people who are prepared to shell out a little, but want something more than's currently offered in return.
