Let Me Get This Straight About TSTO Black Friday 2019

So, EA wants me to buy 900 donuts, aka a Store Full for $49.99 USC, in exchange for three buildings and 37 tokens that I can not purchase anything with? (I assume I will be able to get 12 donuts per token but since the beginning of the event went so fast, I can't say for sure)

Do not get me wrong, I would be happy to chip in a $20 spot to help the sustainability of this game but you're asking for $50 for a game that has no guarantee to last into the new year?

I feel hesitation with this. There are items I do not have in this game, granted I have almost all but there are still a few things (cough* respectable Moe *cough) that could be released in the Black Friday box but my window says "there is currently nothing available in this category". Everything that has ever been released should be in that Store category. If there were additional items to be had with a $49.99 purchase, I would jump on it, but that's not the case for me.

I currently have over 3000 Donuts. Bloodmobile farmed, since there's little else left to do with my vast swathes of ingame dollars (except when fences come up). Buying these extra donuts is pointless to me.

This Friday though, EA decides to offer something that you can ONLY get by paying money. Quite a lot of money, in a short space of time, in an otherwise free game. You can't earn or buy golden tokens in any way other than real, actual money. Not even with donuts.

Hey, it could have been a great money sink. 1 million Springfield Dollars per Golden Token. That's a lot of money some of us could have gotten rid of, as more and more people hit their money caps.

This sale is aimed specifically at Whales. This is also a test to find out how many people will actually participate in this kind of Event.
  • They ran this very same sale with different items Last Black Friday. (Golden Tokens)
    They'll do it again.
It isn't the evil Disney doing it.
Yes this makes these items exclusive to those who can or will pay actual cash for them.
There is nothing wrong with that.
They have a separate quest line (All American Auction) that has items you can just play the game and win.
Having this for cash purchase only does not make the game impossible to play during this event, you just can't access all of it and it will not keep you from playing the game.
The whole purpose of it is to make money.
OMG they are so evil for wanting their game to make money.
And the game is not a FREE game it is a Freemium game

    " What Is a Freemium?

A combination of the words "free" and "premium," the term freemium is a type of business model that involves offering customers both complementary and extra-cost services. A company provides simple and basic services for free for the user to try; it also offers more advanced services or additional features at a premium."
*edited to add that Yes they ran the same Golden Token sale with different items last year. I remember it, but Google confirmed it.
  • @EllieGuseman First off, I'm not sure how well you read my post because you seem to have misinterpreted some points.

I was not referring to All American Auction, but Golden Token.
As I played this event last year and bought the only three IGC items, that are also the only three this year :'( :'( :'( , and I do not remember the Golden Token last year.

I do not think Disney are evil, soppy and misguided, definitely, but not evil.
The first Mary Poppins film had them doing a fox hunt and a steeple chase effectively at the same time :s , I cannot find the right words to describe how wrong that is. Probably the first recorded case of Brit bashing.
I saw a clip of Glee to see what all the fuss is about and instead witnessed the cast murder butcher and slaughter Van Halen's Jump :s :'( :s , and I am definitely not repeating the words that I found for that.

When I didn't play MoA, I was referring to the Token game not the game as a whole, and I stopped playing the game as a whole when I lost my progress at Level 117 or higher and I did not want to go back through it all again, at least not at that moment in time, plus I had started TSTO and there was not enough time for both.
Would I go back, yes, if I could get my progress reinstated.

I do not have a problem with people paying to play, it is not a race and there is no competition, we each do our own thing and I will do mine as far as I can go, which would be getting up at 4am to do event jobs and put them back in.
Disney are not a charity, this costs them money, so they want to get something back to pay for all overheads at the very least.

The last two paragraphs were not being critical of EA or Disney.
Merely noting that the game was downloaded for free and they run and maintain it when no users on this iPad pays for it, that said, if it should be upgraded this year, rather than just throwing it away I will ask if I can reuse it, and if circumstances allow I may be able to pay for something in the future. :p :p :p

I have been playing since The Invasion Before Christmas 2017 and have seen a disconnect between premium and freemium stuff and I do not have a problem with this, it is as I would expect, my only concern would be "am I playing freemium wrong".
I do not do KEM farming, I do not have ready access to the game to make the most of it, and when I did, I only gained a handful of donuts and rapidly reduced my IGC, which made it difficult to buy land.
So I buy what is wanted more for aesthetics or what can be used than anything else, I do not have or want loads of wailing walls on parade for example.
  • That was a general comment not specifically directed at you @KLmaker or I would have tagged you
  • @hollander2uk @shanemadrid There was a glitch with donut purchases counting for the questline.
You can either get your money back from the app store or run the gauntlet with EA help.

I've been crossing my fingers that Golden Goose Realty would be a Black Friday offering, but unless I somehow am overlooking it, it's not here. I did gain a few new buildings, but that was the one I was hoping for the most.

Even if it was there I couldn't have got it, I have no where near enough donuts to chance getting it and instead getting other stuff I don't want.
    Just sell it straight.

I don't know if EA has done something like this golden token thing before on TSTO or wherever.
But it is very common on Mirrors of Albion run by Games Insight, I can't remember the circumstances of it though, I don't think it was a boss fight, if I rightly remember I didn't play it much because the freemium tokens didn't get as far as premium ones.
I used to play it, I stopped to concentrate on TSTO.

Perhaps it's because Disney are now involved and there are some ideas they want to try.

That said, you have to pay the developers to run and maintain a free game somehow.
  • No Box this year for Black Friday ???? I tray to close characters collection but we can't buy by donuts for all 2019 ............ what a shame ............
