Capital City Goofball was retired after the death of Tom Poston, yet we still got him in the game.
Lunch Lady Doris was retired for almost 10 years after the death of Doris Grau. But in 2007, she was brought back out of retirement & is now voiced by Tress MacNielle & I'm sure it's only a matter of time until we get her as a playable character.
Like I've said in a previous post. Action figures of both Troy McClure & Lionel Hutz were made way after the death of Phil Hartman & Playmates, which made the World of Springfield action figures had no problems whatsoever getting the rights to make these. They were even voiced
The Capital City Goofball was not retired. It made appearances after Poston's death, albeit unvoiced as a tribute.
It's pretty obvious that the manner in which Hartman died played a part in the magnitude of the gesture the creators made, and any attempt to bring those characters back would be offensive. To me, at least.
