Between events I do not unfriend - visit or don't visit - no issues :D
When events start, I wait 2-3 days for people who I do not remember visiting me, and about 5-7 days for people I know visit me a lot before I unfriend.
For long-termies, I sometimes wait a full event and onto a next one before unfriending. I know life events or long vacations happen. I went on a two-week cruise vacation this past December without any internet access, and hardly got unfriended, so it definitely happens.
My list is constantly full of awesome friends! :P :P
