I have a different take on this. Someone above alluded to it.
It may not be popular. There's only one reason I can see for having 100 people on my list, and that is to use them. It certainly can't be to build a personal relationship, nor to enjoy having a look around. It's to maximize my points possible. (Been there! Done that!) Nothing altruistic about it. And certainly nothing "sociable"! With 100 "friends" it is only possible to enter, tap-tap-tap, get whatever i can gain for my own purposes, and leave.
By paring down my visit list to the approximate number of towns i can enjoy looking through, as far as I can tell, I'm doing more of what this game is all about. Socializing. Currently, I'm at about 40 to visit.
New players need points and money. Many need 100 friends to afford the basics in an acceptable time. Every point counts. (Been there! Done that!) As you pointed out, it doesn't take much for them to find one another in the add me thread. Many have trouble because they have few buildings at low levels, and are constantly running out of things for others to tap. All of them have plenty of friends to keep their buildings graffitied.
I've added about 20, and "hidden" them from my rounds. That way, they can visit me and get their FP, without me using up 3 of their buildings and alienating their other friends who delete them because they have no use for them. I explain ahead of time that this is my plan. I'm fine with them "using" me, I don't get in their way, and I save time and never get to the one-point-per-tap level. In MY opinion, it's Win win
.
