Is the throw pillows task crucial to a Christmas questline? If not, does it pay more gift cards than the Snowmobile task? If the answer to both of those questions is "no", I'll hold off on it until after New Year's.
I believe I triggered my quest after Apu was done giving his promotion. As for the Snowmobile task, it is pointless unless you like seeing him ride across your town. As long as you have 100 friends and visit them often you'll finish getting all of the prizes fairly easily.
