I find the healing process to be a lot more painful than the actual tattooing most of the time. I have mostly oranges and yellows and I think it always helps being able to see what's going on so I use mirrors a lot. I think it's because it gives you a sense of control over the process. I remember getting a tat next to this really ripped guy in the same area and he was almost screaming whereas I was holding my mirror and watching and way more composed. I gave him the mirror when I was done and he calmed down considerably but he was still hurting. He may have just been super sensitive or perhaps his artist wasn't so great. Some artists don't give you tattoos but give you scars.sherryt07 wrote:
I don't have any. I've always kinda wanted one, but could never think of any art piece I'd want on my body forever.
Good. There's no sense getting something unless you're sure not only because of the permanence and pain but also the cost. I wanted one at 16 but was underage, at 18 still wanted one but never got around to it and so shortly after my 25th I got my first. It wasn't flash but it wasn't the best nor most meaningful tattoo. It did and still has meaning but compared to the artistry of the rest it falls short. I'm just glad I'm not stuck with the girly girl dolphins I would have surely gotten had I gone in on my 18th birthday. Still love dolphins like crazy but I don't want any on my body.
I don't have anything against people who don't have tattoos. I couldn't care less what people do with their bodies as long as it's their choice, but there's been far too many situations where summer comes along, some of my tats become visible and suddenly certain people's attitudes change b/c apparently you only have tattoos for attention and not only that but you keep shoving it in people's faces saying "here, whaddaya think?" Um, no.nancalmei wrote:

I found that out the hard way :-( I spent ages researching local artists to do my first, then finally decided upon one who had tattooed a few of my friends (a professional obviously lol) but he tattooed too deep in to my skin and as a results parts of it became keloid scars so now I have a tattoo which is partly raised and partly smooth :-( so I decided never to go to him again
After that it took a while for me to even want another one just in case it happened again, but then I decided on a new design when a tattoo shop opened up around the corner, so after a few months of waiting and speaking to people who had been I finally decided to go and get one there. Best decision I've made :-) there are 2 artists there and now I wouldn't go anywhere else, they are both amazing and I've never had any problems :-)
