I don't like to be in cars. I've been a passenger in 4 rear-enders (nothing too major) where my driver was 100% at fault. Any time I'm riding with someone now, my chest tightens and my anxiety spikes. It varies, depending on the vehicle I'm in and who's driving. Riding in my friend's rig or his Ram is better because I can see more of what's going on. Riding in my own Alero (seemingly inches off the ground) is a guaranteed fast-track to a panic attack.
I'll come up with any excuse to walk where I need to go, up to walks that take 45-60 minutes. I'm fairly tall, so I can actually cover more ground than most people assume.
It's a phobia that certainly negatively impacts my life, and I'm not sure how to get over it.
