I brought this very same issue up last event or the event before. I have android set to auto update and notify of updates. But on it too that is not reliable for timely delivery of all updates. It was days delay. And I too had to grind like crazy to get all the stuff in that event. The game should have a popup that new content update is available the instant it is live. And the game itself should push a notification that a content update just went live as well. That way everyone will know the instant the content is live so they can start playing it.
