Roads and highways.

So I have recently been doing some remodelling and deep in my inventory I found the old krusty land highways.
These seem to be absolutely useless! They are an odd sized, have no corners and don't link to normal roads.
Also if you place down basic roads side by side you with a long divide down the middle it looks good......... That is until you move a tree or a building or anything. All the roads link on the corners giving lots of little roundabouts.
With the new car parking lot that just dropped in the summer games update this looks like a great way to add new road pieces.
What would I like to see?
1.Get rid of highway pieces (or make them sellable).
2.make new road pieces. 1 side with pavement (path/walkway) , 2 adjacent sides with pavement and 2 opposite sides with pavement.
3.make the pavement the only live part of the road. So you can place any item on the road.
4.paths. Make it so I can place all items on all paths. (this come from trying to place both itchy and scratchy balloons on krusty land paths.

I would love so see other people's views on these points.

I like it. Ok highways can stay.
However I have none of those items except the basic cars and the Springfield arch.
@4junk3000 I like the double road set up but the pavement when linking to other items drives me crazy. How do you get your double road to stay divided I find whenever I put down or move another item my whole town turns in to a million roundabouts.......?

As Spider mentioned, you have to switch off the GROUND category EVERY TIME you do a move. Attempting to move any roads will trigger this bug that ruins the "double thick median" of a 2x wide road.

It hasn't always been this way. The bug was introduced shortly after the Area Select Tool was added to the game. They never fixed it.

I usually remember to switch it off, but i have forgot occasionally, and the only thing to do is delete one lane and then replace it.
  • This is how i join my roads and highways, you have to place the crosswalks before the road to get it to work
  • @robertcass You need to meet some qualifications to be able to post images and the url needs to have the .jpg at the end

Moving roads wrecks carefully constructed roadways. If you have to move buildings around roads/rivers/boardwalks, tap on the sleep roadway icon. Moving even one road tile, river section, or boardwalk will undo all of your hard work. This grid work has been undamaged for months. If I need to move it I rebuild it in its new location, then destroy the old one.

Is that grid too big for a group move? Does it hold together when you group move? I would think it would.

It can be moved, but any other road section that you have carefully arranged is ruined.
  • This new surface trick, is the best new thing to arrive in ages. Thank you EA!

This pic illustrates a guardrail along a roadside by my reservoir. (In the background are the Venice villas which have the ability to place over water by default.)

Simple little customizations like this are so enjoyable to slip into my town!
