I've been getting this a lot as well. Not sure if its 20 minutes, but every so often, I get booted off and have to reconnect.
It has happened a few times when I was visiting neighbours (which makes sense since I do them all in one go, so its one of the few times I regularly spend large amounts of time playing in one go), but the most annoying was when it happened just as I was almost finished whacking snakes I'd just released from a snake rock. Think I lost 20-25 of those 30 snakes I released.
Does your friends spend a long time playing the game? Maybe you can try stress testing and having your two iPads and two game running side by side to see if its some auto time out code gone bonkers, or something more specific to your game or iPad. I use an iPad 4 btw, so it does not appear to be an issue with our iPad models.
