- It's been a common problem. Smithers gets stuck in the control building, and sometimes it says there are two or three of him on a job in there, a problem I had to store the manor to fix. I've been keeping him away from the plant until there's a patch or something.

He's been "whipping it" a LOT in my town lately. :)- I've had this happen to me a few times as well. Yeah you have to either store the control building or Burns Manor. Lately I've been having Smithers either whip it or be a hideous drunken wreck.
- UPDATE: Things got worse tonight on the Smithers-glitch issue. Like a doofus, I put Smithers and Burns on the Money Fight task late last evening. A little while ago, decided to end it and release Smithers before going to bed ... Didn't want to risk having the job end and no way to find him if he disappeared, as he had the last time.
Tried storing the Control Building. Crashed my game. Forced close, tried again. Crashed again. Did same with Burns Manor. Every time I tried storing either building I got a crash. Same result on my android and on my ipad. Crash crash crash. Just to be sure it was only those two buildings, I stored Madame Chaos, and also the Wiggum house, and both stored just fine.
Finally spent donuts to rush the Money Fight and Smithers was released as expected, walked happily away, in plain view. No disappearing.
But be warned ... Do NOT expect that storing the building/mansion will be an option for releasing Smithers. It worked yesterday, but not today. In my town, I've decided to leave him untasked completely until they fix this. - Had a weird one tonight, set Smither/Burns on their 1 hour task, left and returned a hour later to find they still had 54 minutes left on it. Stored the control power to release Burns but no issue beyond that (seemingly). Don't know if that's related or not.

Yes, that's another glitch I've noticed as well. The 60 minutes countdown starts once S/B start cycling. If you exit the game before that happens, their task is gonna start when you next log on.- I've had Smithers and Burns stuck at the plant too, had to store the building to get them out :evil:

This assumes that you can store the building. As I posted above, my game crashed every time. Would not store Burns Manor either.
I also (after restarting) tried switching to move mode and trying to store Smithers. Crash. Tried storing the cooling towers since it was a joint task hoping that freeing burns would free up Smithers. Nope. Crash. Even reinstall didn't work.
After I finally got him off task (see above post) I was able to store/unstore all three of those buildings.annettemarc wrote:

Very true does depend whether the OP can store the building(s) but this hasnt been stated by the OP so this is the 1st thing to try....as you have rightly said in your case it might not be possible to store, but i was assuming the OP could. :mrgreen:
