The OP does have a point. I don't have notifications on for TO, so I don't know if those happen, but i can confirm there is no benefit from people fighting in your town. My second towns all fight each other or my main town and I have not seen rewards of any kind.
I wonder if this is not working as intended or will be introduced in a later act. It could go a long way to solving the anticipated social battle opportunity shortage.
