Hasn't happened to me, but have you tried storing them? Store the Van Houten house and the Library. Might work :? Good luck.

Thanks for the tip. That seems to have done it for now. Don't know why it didn't occur to me to try that earlier except that I just had to wrestle to get Homer back in the game, and I'm used to not being able to store the Simpson house.
Plus, I've noticed that some of the characters lose their assigned jobs when I pop back in from visiting my neighbors.
Probably what happened with Martin and Milhouse somehow.
TSTO has been incredibly buggy recently.
