The 'events' structure has killed the fun for me

I've noticed becoming tired/disinterested of playing in between events. So I end up just returning to really play during events only. Then if I don't like the event I wind down playing until another one comes along. In addition during non event periods I occasionally just bring up the game briefly to tap on a few items to see the animations.
