- Think of it like the old computer game Mindsweeper. Click boxes and look for rocks...find rocks andmeans the big jewel is in a connecting box.

IMPORTANT:
when you start the quest involving mom and pop store, send 2 characters first, collect then send the full three, this is the only time they will have a 6 second task for the shovels (that im aware of) so take advantage of it.
as for the shovels im using a battleship method, the middle square between 9 squares. the gem appears to be near stones?
Can't. Stop. Digging. This is sooo much fun.
I might be using the same method, definitely room to strategize (so happy we can do this again). Is this what you mean?

You and i do think alike i'll give ya that, however i have a new theory that can push this further.
Yes i have been seeing a T formation for the ancient gems, the last two gems have been an "Uppercase" T 3 squares total, i have not seen a "Lowercase" t yet but that should be useful information.
Theory revolves around rock placement, by checking the Excavation site i learned it CANT be flipped.
that means that the rock formation/ancient gem itself flips. figure out the rocks look, dictate the ancient gems location.
this needs more studying and could work as long as the rock formations (stones if you will) surrounding the ancient gem are different.
Basic theory the gem is in the center, this is not contested.
Stones can be located in one of 4 directions, North (N), South (S), West (W), East (E) if all stones are different (picture wise) and all ancient gem groupings are the same , but flipped figuring which stone is visible can dictate the direction of the gem.
If stone (E) is visible than the gem must be west of that place (calculating the flip look if applicable)
however this is only theoretical and based on once again the fact that all gems are the same and the stones on all 4 (3?) points have a different look.
studying various pictures now to determine it, shouldnt take too long, unless i want to watch futurama. - @someonewashere
Thank you. Am just taking screenshots now of a few rounds. Will see what I come up with. I'm kid in candy store excited so may need your feedback when my post with screenshots is ready to make sure I get your theory. Think we're on the same page though.
ETA: got loads of screenshots with lots of scenarios. Will make a thread with a "guide" that requests feedback for strategy from others. "someonewashere;c-1623125" wrote:

I like this idea. Hopefully it is true because it would make things so much easier.- someonewashereRising Novice

That rock (while minimal in picture number 2 is in the wrong direction, theory)

has the North and East stones that look similar (both in the same formation) howver the one South of the gem looks different, it may be because of the dustcloud but this is all conjecture for now. "someonewashere;c-1623134" wrote:

I see what you mean now. I'll take a look through my screenshots to see if I can make sense of that. Got a few without clouds for the last shot of the T stone and t stone shapes.
ETA: moving my replies to this thread about the excavation so it's easier to discuss https://forums.ea.com/en/the-simpsons-tapped-out/discussion/101439/excavation-site-gems- I've had a 1% increase in multiplier.
Anyone know where this has come from? - Does anyone know what the benefit of the tap radius is on the Panini Press. I know it increases the tap radius of the Panini Press, but what purpose does it serve? Tapping on it sends back all of the dinosaurs that are in the town anyways, is there an added benefit?
- we don't know yet although the upgrade screen says what you said, Made me think it may be more beneficial to place it center of town,
- Thank you all so much! I completely didn't realize how this worked until I read and reread the thread. Unfortunately I skipped over the six seconds shovels very very quickly. Now in 4 hour loop for 199. Thankfully I have a lot of donuts so I'm just playing with bought ones :D This is fun!
