- Good luck improving your Internet neighbor

- Hurry back, your chilies' burning
- mystery2miSeasoned NewcomerI was wondering what happened to you today. You are probably the most reliable neighbor I have.
Good luck on getting your internet back up and running. I'm switching my internet service next Tuesday so wish me luck too. - wadebearRetired Hero

Good luck!
I'm on dial up. I was able to get into the game on my iPad long enough to tap a few buildings and characters, then I got kicked out and can't get back in.
The iPad is the only tablet I took with us into town this afternoon, so it got updated at the Huddle House (OK food, super fast wifi). I wish I'd taken them all because I can't download the updates on my other devices now, so I can't even try to play on them.
It's a mess here. I have my old (came with Windows XP upgraded to Vista OLD) laptop handling the dial up connection, sharing it through the ethernet jack to our router, then on to the rest of our computers. I can't use the internet on more than one device at a time without overloading it. And it's SO FREAKING SLOW! I gripe about the speed of our satellite but... AHHHHH!
While we were in town we picked up 2 cellular wifi devices. We tried to authorize the AT&T one but they never sent the email with the confirmation so we could connect. Not that I'm sure we CAN connect with it - I'm still working to get a signal out here. There's got to be some spot in our house where it can pick up an adequate G4 signal. Last night I could get on the internet with my husbands phone with G3, unfortunately it's got tethering locked out (pay as you go el-cheapo service). The other one's a Net 10 device, which is the same company my hubby's phone came from under another name. So if the AT&T thing doesn't work... - wadebearRetired Hero

The one and only true good thing about Starbucks free Wi-Fi or McDonald's
The 2 problems with that are:
The nearest ones are miles away - a 15 minute drive at 65 mph.
You have to buy stuff or they'll ask you to leave.
That's why I got the cellular hotspot devices - I figure it would be cheaper than driving into town at least once a day and spending money on overpriced junk food. It may be a week before we get the replacement modem, and even longer before we get it working right.
The first one they sent would work fine for about an hour and a half, then it would start losing connection every couple of minutes. So of course they wanted to try to fix it remotely (you can't fix an overheating problem by fiddling with the settings! And that's obviously what it was since disconnecting it for a couple of hours made it work again for another hour and a half...)
I had a TV like that once. It would work for a while, then the screen would start going on and off. Let it cool down and it would work for a while, then blinky, blinky, blinky. I opened it up and found the bad connection and was able t o re-solder it so it worked for a few more months, then it died. wadebear wrote:

Keep a time log and ask for a credit on your bill for all your downtime. That gets things fixed REALLY fast for me.- Good luck with your endeavors!

Thanks, I need it.
The AT&T device was a bust. I finally got the StraightTalk device up and connected, but just to my tablets and laptop (and I had to fight to connect with the laptop). Our desktop computers are still stuck with dial up. I can't seem to figure out how to share the hot spot through the house network so all our devices will have internet.
I wish we could afford to just use cellular data. Even with the lousy connection I'm getting it's still faster than the satellite modem speeds.
