Big OH... Something I think I've figured out (at least my explanation explains what's been happening in my town):

Your town can now only hold 20 Nightmares now. There is no bank for them. When Starspawn are spawning (when M'nthster is at the temple) and you release more than 20 Nightmares in your town you will stop spawning Starspawn and start spawning however many Nightmares over 20 that you released.

So say you sent all your kids to the Brown House to Hunt Nightmares, then tapped them out. For me that would be 56 Nightmares. The first 20 appear in your town and you tap them out. The next 36 creatures that spawn will be the Nightmares you lost instead of Starspawn.

I don't know if this applies to the Nightmares you get from the Gate to Nowhere. In fact I've seen bunnies pop in after tapping the Gate and then had them promptly vanish right before my eyes.

Nope not at all. I also do not have any nightmare running around my town, only those that come from the fire and I can't add any friends.

I dont think I have ever seen it available to me.

Try this:

Close the app.
Force close the app.
Un-install the app.
Turn off your device.
Turn on your device.
Re-install the app.

Start the app. Don't log in or try to play until ALL the updates have downloaded completely.

I did all of that and nothing has changed. :(
