Twisted Tunnel

YeS! I wrote something like this in the last thread:
Looks to me that SH "heights" is four tiles higher than SF. You can see that clearly if you look at the beach on each side of the mountain. That twist in the tunnels shifts the road and track four tires too. So for me it's pretty clear that it's an attempt to make it look like there's an incline. It's too bad the characters walking through it don't do so diagonally!

I haven't seen the monorail go through it yet but I imagine it will swerve like on a couple of S ?
  • thanks for the quick replies confirming my fears.

i'm not moving my entire rail, there's just no way.

hopefully with a combo of the s-tracks, we'll be able to sync up with the restriction on the tunnel. it's almost impossible to move the rail a single square over, but i think it can be done. the rail might just look a little wiggly going into it.
  • I never bothered actually create a monorail in my town so correct me if I'm wrong here but wouldnt the S curves and half pieces be enough to alter a section of the track so it lines up?
  • I spent almost two hours moving track to see if the Springfield line could mate with the existing SH line through the new tunnel. It will connect but then you can only get your train back to Springfield when it reverses at a stop point. We need the second tunnel now - not a month from now. Having two trains running the entire system would be way cool, even if EA has to adjust the station time to keep from having any collisions. That should be a simple fix once we get the second tunnel. And yes, that twist in the tunnel is one grid off, making for a time consuming rebuild without the second tunnel.

If it's 2 or 4 squares off yes. The problem is when the Monorail is off by 1 square. I'm talking about the tiny squares you see when in design mode)
  • So this tunnel once you place it can you pick it back up and put it in your inventory?

There is no way to correct the one square mis-match by using the existing track. Either you move ALL of your existing track, or create a separate line that runs in and out of SH and then almost connects via a station.

The very real need for a Y track piece is very evident now, a small loop at the terminus in SH could simply turn the train back over the same track without stopping and reversing. A second one in SF and the train just keeps on trucking.

  • I just did exactly that - I moved over 250 rail sections to align my Springfield tracks with the new tunnel. It wasn't easy but now I have a monorail that starts in SH, takes the tunnel and connects with the Springfield line. It runs for over 4 minutes until it reaches the tunnel again and reverses. The downside is, I lost the two train system I had working. The upside is, my track is now ready for the second tunnel. And yes, a Y section would be terrific!

I thought the S curve moved it over one square, now I see the dilemma, maybe soon EA will change the tunnel so when you press the rotate button in edit mode it will change the precise position of the rail over a square
