House farming actually makes a lot of sense. The high prices of buildings, the enormous land prices and the extremely limited way to get donuts are probably the main reasons. You CAN NOT make a lot of money without either investing a lot of donuts (requiring a lot of real money or illegal actions) or farming houses. If you don't have either you can probably only make around 50k or something like that realistically per day if you own all of the none premium buildings. Also you can use money to buy experience (by building stuff that gives experience), which allows you to play the donut game (if you're max level) one of the very few options you have to earn donuts legitimately on a regular basis. So for me it's more a way to make ends meet, otherwise the game progresses to slowly for me to enjoy it and I'd probably would stop playing. Though I'd like to think of it as something temporary, at the very least to unlock all the land and water, but I'll probably keep it to farm a decent amount of donuts. So it makes perfect sense for people who can't or won't spend real money on donuts. I think it's pretty elitist to say house farming is bad while you have a lot of donuts or premium content, why don't you try building a town without using any donuts and it'll become evident why people farm houses. I've played without house farming for a long time but now my town is getting walled in by houses, which I think is pretty funny :D I kind of feel like I'm in between building a nice town and housefarming :D But I don't think there's anything wrong with house farming and people who don't have (or want) to spend a lot of money on the game shouldn't be made to feel bad about it IMHO. I think it's pretty elitist for people to exclude people because they house farm, to me it feels like the rich excluding poorer people because they don't have money to waste on the game and acting like they're better because they can. Something I feel is wrong in this world, which makes me sad :( Yes, I know it looks ugly but some people don't have another choice.
Whilst house farming may make sense to some people, I personally think it looks horrible. I have seen a few people who do house farm and I can't stand it. I have never paid any real money into the game and I am currently saving all my dohnuts to buy a big premium item I like. I have progressed through the game the free-way I started playing just after the valentines update and now I am on maximum level and nearly completed the most-up-to-date storyline, I have spent the majority of my money on decorations and land (which punished me last update).
House farming is just plain ugly, I have spent alot of time putting effort into the look of my SF, tonnes of fences for my characters to walk through and putting different bits together, personally I don't see the point in buying loads and loads of the same house as it looks boring, the only thing I have two of is Krusty Burger, but that was strangely used to erm "decorate" my KL shuttle. Buying multiples of the houses available is an integral part (for those who spend little to no money on the game) of obtaining a five star rating. As you reach a higher level, you will eventually need more houses to uphold that rating.
A good idea is to make double or even triple houses, like so:
That's one of the best I have seen

It's on the down low! - I don't have an artistic town but I make some effort to make it look like an actual city. I have neighbors with amazing Springfields, but also these horrible towns where half is housefarms the other half is all buildings crammed together - no streets, no decoration. I understand there must be kids playing the game, that's why I don't delete these fugly SFs, but it really saddens me to visit some towns with such valuable items like the Halloween stuff, the cool brown house and loads of premiums, so poorly arranged.
