i see multiple possibilities as well as multiple answers:
1.) OCD, perhaps something mild, the general idea of going forwward instead of waiting, or perhaps the hatred of odd numbers, which is a thing. Kinda like '99 everyone couldnt wait for 2000 to come even though now we're all like who gives a darn and there was no Y2K, that may also be a reason, unbeknownst to us lv 60 may have its own Y2K.
2.)Relaxed attitude to content, theres a key difference in a lv update and an event, an event is often timed while a lv isnt, im going to have to save up for a lv update where as an event will eat all my cash because i dont know when it will come next. People panic when they miss a day or two or even an hour of game time during an event and it makes sense, it is timed after all.
3.) Established time frames, minimum requirements met and consistent updates.
I've played games where the max lv is 100 after that its just events and updating the games mechanics, as often new updates will bring new features and a max lv player can and will adapt becoming "game breaking" or uber in the process.
I've seen the opposite as well, which in my opinion is rickdiculous, you ever see a lv 2000 player have difficulty with a lv 500 monster? makes no sense but due to game mechanics sometimes they will power level so quickly an almost seemingly impossible task is necessary to "distract" players
what does this mean?
This Redwood "event" permanent or temporary, it mimics the Money Mountain, time is a bit shorter but cost is almost the same (maybe a bit higher) which begs the point: Is It Permanent?
If it is it would be safe to assume that Jesse is also permanent, it however it does not assume too much beyond that.
the characters it requires, besides Jesse and Lisa, are past a certain level but it does have an issue establishing its required level if it was an update.
You brought a good point, valentines day was a good event, but if such mini events took over level updates... let me put it this way, what guarantees would we have that freemium characters released in said event will or would remain freemium if and/or whenever they make a return?
Barney was a free character during the first(?) Xmas but now hes 250 donuts, yes its a business it needs to make money and yes he is worth it but, 250 donuts? a little much for a once free character.
is maggie still available?
or will she be implemented as a premium character later on (given the fact that she produces donuts i wouldnt argue that, but still she is a simpson)
that in a nutshell is MY only 1 and true argument for level updates, it practically guarantees 1 Freemium and 1 Premium character per level, an event can offer many free characters at first, but the second time around or the next time they're released dont be surprised if they have a price tag on em.
