 I only redesigned my town this week, because I've only recently hit the top level and had money to spare for land. I still don't own all the available land, but there are roads and breathing room between buildings and even some areas that I'm really happy with.
Didn't nuke either, just moved things around - but even that took quite a bit of time.
I spent a lot of time admiring neighbors' towns before deciding I should probably give the redesign a go, and I don't really mind what state my neighbors' towns are in - they run the gamut from super-creative to higgeldy-piggeldy - because I figure they're playing how they want to, and as long as they're having fun, it's all good.
The one thing I didn't anticipate was having to get used to where everything is in my new layout, I was so used to having everything clustered in clumps. Worth it, though.
