Not at all surprised. The biggest giveaway about how the developers felt regarding religion was when they released the first church of lard lad, which basically mocked Christianity.
Still waiting for a building or character to be released that mocks Islam... Or any other religion, for that matter. I won't hold my breath. It's OK though, because as a Christian and a Constitutionalist, I believe you're entitled to atheist views and I won't kill you for disagreeing with mine... like members of other unmocked and nameless religion(s) might.
But, they can do what they want. The reason for the Christmas season is religion, whether or not a few people acknowledge that fact is irrelevant. It does make me giggle how they go out of their way to avoid linking this event to a religious holiday.
The Church of Lard Lad was from an episode of The Simpsons. Maybe best an admin steps in because this thread is getting a bit heated.- With all due respect, I don't think we need an admin/mod to step in. I think comments in this thread have been relatively reasonable considering the topic. In particular, jmn120176 did recognize that others can have differing views.
It seems reasonable to recognize that TSTO does recognize Christian religious holidays moreso over any of the 18 other major recognized religions spanning the globe. EA does seem to minimize the religious aspect of such holidays, but the Nativity scene with the Simpsons playing the parts of Joseph, Mary, the baby Jesus, and an angel, certainly reflects Christianity in last year's Winter event.
In the end, TSTO is a game based off The Simpsons television show. They have a long history of mocking religion, and I think the game writers have approached the topic in a reasonably balanced way hole staying true to the tv show.
/my 2 cents - If guess oversight. Bed did kick off the event saying "the lords birthday is right around the corner". I do miss the Christmas / event Day gifts though. Not talking donuts - one year we got a reindeer.
- Really? Do you even watch the Simpsons? Never mind, I'm going to Starbucks
- I'm pleased that others noticed too. I'm not trying to be overly religious & I'm a big Sumpsons fan so I know the take on religion that the show has I just thought it was very odd/overly PC that it wasn't even mentioned even by Ned (VERY out of character!!) or the Rev. Yes as someone has already mentioned Easter is recognised as are many other holidays & every year since I started playing there has been mention of Christmas on the day itself. Even if you look at it from the non Christian commercial point of view Christmas is everywhere at this time of year (I'm English - but I'm pretty sure it can't be that different over there in that respect!)
- It annoys me when people say we got Maggie for Christmas, because I think the majority of us didn't. It was early access for those who were ahead, but she wasn't a Christmas gift.
I don't give a single poop that they didn't mention Christmas though. The whole event is for Christmas (even if they call it "Winter"), so who cares? - someonewashereRising NoviceTo quote one of my Mentors and Role Models:
"Woah, woah, woah! How come we get off for every dumb human holiday but not for robot holidays?
I'm talkin' about Robanukah, the holiest six and a half weeks in the robot calendar!"

It has a event so thats nice while the immediate day doesnt have anything special i still appreciate the event, would i like a freebie? Sure, but honestly im pretty happy already. - Well I have a question will we be seeing the bonus bundles of donuts that we usually see this time of year? i.e. same pricing on donut bundle offers but more donuts in the bundle
- I don't think they've tried to remove Christmas from the game. Christmas references appear all over in this event:
"Christmas Clams $50 a Pound" sign.
"X-mas Trees Slightly Irregular"
"Christmas Burns Manor" - "Christmas Crazy Cat House" - "Christmas Houseboat" - and so on...
"Make White Witch Burns Forever Postpone Christmas"
"Make Apu Stock Shelves With XMAS Goodies"
"Make Martin Find the Perfect Christmas Tree"
"Make Marge Go Christmas Shopping"
"What would Christmas morn be without firin' off a double-barrel shotgun and guzzlin' down double-barrel moonshine?"
"Homie, you're finally back from shopping! We can start our Christmas thank you cards."
"That snow globe can house five generations of people and pets. That makes quite a Christmas scene."
"Homer, let's try to get a big and beautiful Christmas tree this year for the kids."
and so on... Adfoul22 wrote:
This really bothers some people? Seriously?
Unfortunately many people look for reasons to be offended.
Let's be honest, the event is intrinsically decked out with Christmas-themed decorations/costumes/characters.
Ned directly mentioned "the Lord's birthday" early in the event, etc.
I think expecting them to give us something for Christmas goes against the very idea of the holiday in many ways--not so much the gift aspect, as obviously that's a huge part of the holiday, but the entitled attitude that we should have received something. They've been releasing free stuff all month for the event, so anyone who has been playing should've been getting a bunch of stuff all month long. Is the issue really that you didn't get something special on that specific day?
