Visit Friends and Collecting Hearts

You cannot begin to collect hearts by visiting friends until YOUR first crop has finished and the rest of the update begins. (Witch Marge does help speed this along if you have her)

If you visit friends BEFORE your crop has finished, and the visiting friends quest has been completed, your friends will not receive any hearts from you. Your visit will appear as a normal handshake.

There is an icon at the bottom left of the friends screen that indicates the following:
5 Hearts for your next 30 actions. Each tap on a Valentine in friends town count as one.
Once you have reached 30 the next message is
4 Hearts for your next 30 actions,
3 Hearts for you next 30 actions,
2 Hearts for your next 30 actions,
1 Heart for your next 180 actions.

If you reach the end of 300 actions, before visiting all of your friends, you will be notified that you have collected all hearts possible for today, but continue to visit your friends.

If you have 100 friends, save the other springfield for last.

Each Valentine card you deliver is worth 2 hearts, regardless of which order you visit.
