nails are used only to upgrade that. and the higher it's the wider is the blast radius of the explosion when you squish an alien

can't confirm my suspicion , but I think the higher level NailBoards drop Treat Bags more frequently , seems like every 15 Rigelians smashed earns a bag at level 10 .
