What is the deal with the boardwalk?

I agree the increase is ridiculous. $3,300 and 16 hours just for 1 measly piece of boardwalk? But my tasks don't seem to want to move beyond the Itchy and Scrathy store right now, so I guess I don't need any more. :P

    Just found on the Tapped Out wiki page this is not a timed event, so there is no rush to get this done early, as boardwalk and buildings will be available permanently.
