Pull back counter for the GloRy
Why do I have to be in hook range just for my jabs and straights to land? Even body jabs and body straights feel like they have far less reach than they should. The striking range feels inconsistent, making long range boxing simply ineffective. A common trend I’m seeing in ranked is constant pocket fighting and pull counter fishing. Fighting from the outside isn’t really incentivized as a viable strategy. Instead, the game heavily incentivizes standing in the pocket, body hunting, and waiting for pull back counters. It feels like UFC 5’s counter punching meta all over again. Another issue is how movement interacts with striking. When I throw punches from a planted stance, my opponent can instantly shuffle backward, causing two out of every three punches to whiff. If I try to throw whilst moving like jab hook combos my strikes become slow, have poor tracking, and often fail to connect anyway, especially if my opponent is up against the fence. Meanwhile, my opponent simply stops moving, plants their feet, throws a quick body flurry at close range, backs out, and repeats the cycle. Thats easy for me to do as well. I actually have to use this strategy to win. That’s how the game is playing right now, and it’s far too reminiscent of UFC 5. Outside fighting, range management, and using reach advantages should be viable strategies, but instead the game funnels everyone into the same close range body hunting, everyone is Ilia Topuria pull counter style of play. It’s a disappointing direction and feels like a repeat of what many players considered the weakest gameplay meta the series has had.
