How to block a clinch attempt? What does grapple stick do in the clinch?

@EA_Blueberry How can you Block a clinch attempt? seems like all you can do is escape once they engage in the clinch?

Also while in the clinch what does the Right stick do in regards to grappling? seems like all you can do is either trip (R1 + X or O) or advance 1 position? (R1 + Square or Triangle) wheres all the other clinch positions?

  • If you go to clinch in the controls, it shows that the right stick is the "grapple stick" but I have tried to use it have no clue what it does. Can anybody help me with this?

Grappling in the clinch with the strikingbuttons is super-confusing and it do not flow right! Strikingbuttons is strikingbuttons, grappling happens with the stick, is that so hard to understand?. And, what's was the point of doing this, just to change something?

Controlls was something you did good in UFC 3.

Controlls was not what needed to improvement!

    Use your heads developers!

I don't mean too be rude, I want to know, did any of you developers play THQ Undisputed 3?

I have a feeling that you did'nt, and that you should leave developing this game to someone els!?

  • I was wondering what the grapple stick did as well.

As far denying clinch attempts, there is no denial but a couple of ways to avoid it. You can use head movement (I've found slipping and then following with an uppercut to be effective). You can also use footwork and the push (R2 + Lead Uppercut) to avoid it.

They are missing quite a few positions. No over under up against the cage and no double under at all. I think I saw somewhere on twitter  that these position weren't viewed as "exciting ways to play the game" which does and doesn't make sense to me

    Hope this was helpful

@T-Dangles17 Sounds like they are trying to make the game more Arcade like?

I mean with all the clothing and the fact that you can wear a lions head in a fight kinda shows that.

Might as well just make the entire game in the Kumite arena and target a different audience rather than try go full simulation? Just my opinion.

  • Yeah, it's a tough balance between total realism and fun, but I do feel they are leaning the wrong way.

  • @torchos you can't block the attempt, once he has successfully pinned, you can flick the stick away and sometimes depending on your stamina and grapple advantage it will let you try to get out. Its a complete * show and a disgrace. The clinch and ground and pound are literal garbage made for the mobile version. They wanted systems that they could port directly, and these two systems are more mobile friendly. BRING BACK UFC 3 CLINCH AND GRAPPLE. Your new systems are bad, sorry. I'm sure you worked very hard on them, but they absolutely suck. They are bad ideas with bad implementation. Stop trying to be cute little innovators and make the * game that works.
  • @TGFPdan when you say flick do you mean hold down u till you escape or just sling for a sec and sometimes that escapes?
So much has been cut from the game with these little idea changes the only thing they worked on?
  • Wouldn't call the clinch garbage, but it does seem unfinished.

Ground and pound on the other hand, seems overdone. In the game, anytime someone postures up, it just becomes 5 seconds of wildness. They should go back to UFC3 in that regard, and just transfer over framing hooks and certain other things. They actually found a way for there to be less finishing positions of the ground, because everything just ends up with knee on belly, even if you had them in the crucifix.

@torchos You can't really block a clinch, just do your best to avoid getting too close to a player that is repeatedly doing it. Move your stick back from the opponent and in the direction where you see an opening.
