tyre grip/slip physics and snap loss/regain of grip

I feel like the tyre physics are still strange, although better than DR2.0, i think could still be massively improved. My feel is that the tyres are too 'peaky' in their grip. There is maybe too much overall grip but the way it drops off when you exceed a certain slip angle is just way too aggressive, especially at the rear (on RWD).

It will often snap without any warning, and once you've broken traction, there is way too little grip, and the car will go into a very abrupt spin unless you are very quick on the correction. However, once you do start to correct, the car snaps back to full grip again very quickly. Especially in the older cars, these should be able to slide much more progressively and naturally than we are currently able.

It may not be the case, but the feeling is very much like the (rear tyre) slip angle vs grip model has a very steep decline after the peak, so as soon as you are past this point, there is just way too little grip, and it is very sudden, and then conversely, when you correct and bring the rear slip angle back down, the grip shoots back up again, like the red line in the attached picture.

It feels like underlying physics of the tyre model, like all cars have very peaky sticky tyres.

I would like to see this addressed either with a more progressive tyre model regarding the transition between grip and sliding - especially for the older cars, it feels like they have completely unsuitable tyres on - or for the default set-ups to be changed so it feels much more natural out of the box. or since we're wishing for things, both!!

If for example you compare the old escort on WRC with the RS1600 on Assetto Corsa, that thing is amazing fun on AC, it slides so naturally.

Whereas it's so choppy and snappy in WRC it's just very difficult to be smooth once you go past the linear stage of tyre grip, and there's no warning when it's going to let go. H3 and grp B RWD are just very frustrating to drive because of how unrealistic and poorly they handle. I know they they are difficult to drive but not like this

The best tarmac physics I thought was in 2.0, not on Spain but Germany, it's a bit more dusty tarmac so a little less grippy and so more controllable.

Just wish it was the same in WRC

Yes, I did like DR2 physics better than this game Germany was fun. Although I thought DR2 was still a little too unnaturally grippy. It was even difficult to drift in DR2 except for rally cross, then you could drift all day.

  • I also feel tarmac has a bit too strong On/Off feel to it and hard to drift and handbrake turn which they do in real rally all the time.

  • You are absolutely right. There has been discussions about this from 4 moths ago, but not a damn thing has changed. Devs, please fix.

In Dirt1&2 rwd cars feel so much better (and vr support is a bonus).

  • As an example, look how smooth and progressive the oversteer is in this video. There's no snap to lose the rear, and he's holding the slide way past the corner, basically to the next one. It doesn't just snap back as soon as enough correction is applied.

With the current physics - or maybe setups - i don't think driving like this is actually possible in WRC.

Even the videos with Jon Armstrong driving these cars is an ugly awkward snappy mess.

Can anyone at EA confirm, if all the cars use the same tyre type per surface, like the modern ultra high grip tyre for WRC1 and rally2, regardless of car class and age?

Historic RWD cars should not have these peaky high grip tyres as the sliding behaviour is completely unsuitable and means we cannot enjoy these wonderful cars like they were meant to be driven

If they do not use the same tyres, then something else needs to change as RWD simply should not snap like it does. This is literally one of major things stopping me from playing this game as it's just not fun or realistic.

  • I agre on tarmac physics could be improved (btw grave is the best at the moment)

BTW  your needs based on your experiences made witrh average "flat" tyre(wall)s.
Slick racing tyres are more "peaky" as you mentioned  than ordinary set of tyres (same for gravel and studded tyres experiences are very different)

You are talking about yourr wish to catch a skide quicker which would make the game more arcade in alll way

Also useless to compare to another  car model running on a different tyrre width different profile dimension in a different car simlation's inertia system
