After the recent update, when holding the PS4 controller touchpad, the chat input and Windows on-screen keyboard appear. This prevents us from using touchpad hold for other actions (like holstering weapons). Please add an option to disable chat on touchpad hold.
For three years, I have assigned the touchpad button to tactical abilities.
After the S26 SP2 update, the touchpad button stopped responding and I can no longer perform long presses.
Specifically, my Revenant can only perform short jumps, and using ultimate abilities repeatedly fails.
Additionally, some ALGS players assign the jump button to the touchpad button. He is now unable to jump and is struggling. This is significantly impacting his competitive activities.
PC users have physical keyboards right in front of them, so there is absolutely no need to open a software keyboard from the controller. Please release a patch to remove this feature immediately.
upvoting this it's very annoying been playing Mad Maggie and on controller we can not hold the ultimate (idk why is it that way) so i've assigned left touch pad for ultimate and it brings this virtual keyboard. Please fix this EA/Respawn
I’m experiencing the exact same issue since the S26 split 2 update.
I play on PC with a PlayStation 5 controller and have assigned my tactical ability to the touchpad button. Since the update, holding the touchpad automatically opens the chat and the Windows on-screen keyboard, which completely blocks the input.
Because of this, I can no longer use my tactical ability properly as long presses do not work anymore. This affects many controller players on PC who use custom layouts.
Please add an option to disable the chat and on-screen keyboard function on the touchpad.
Is there already a solution for this issue?
Dawg. thats literally for your in game chat, but if your not holding it, like pushing it down, and the keyboard is still showing up, then yea, its either a bug, or your controller might be bugged, my PS4s controller used to do the same, which is why i moved to xbox, but now im on PC, Xbox and PS for the god of war games
The problem still isn’t fixed, even though several updates have already been released.
How long are you going to leave it like this? Please fix it quickly.
I have the same problem so I read all of this forum and this is littrly what Apex means. Developers just dgaf about Us. Latly I use my touchpad for crouch, jump / loot and flex heilroom but now I have this open chat) Now we have a trouble with double press buttons for ultimate so they made us uncomfortable af. Fix movement. Fix steam config. Nerf aim assist

I've reported this ever since it started and people are saying it isn't a bug. It wasn't in the game before that update back in Sept 2025. So if it is an intentional addition to the game, then they can just add a feature for us to turn it off. I'm on pc with a ps controller. If I wanted to type in the chat box I can just use my keyboard.
For years I've used the touchpad for changing/holstering weapons with no issue bc I claw with my left hand to have easier access to heals/throwables and to keep my right thumb on the analog stick instead of having to take it off to press triangle.
To the people that say, just change your bind, it's annoying having to think about it constantly in game while you're fighting instead of just flowing with the muscle memory you've built for a long time.
