Footsteps aren't playing. Also, the playback position isn't accurate.

I am the administrator of an organization called the Battlefield Japan Community.
After asking players within this community, I found many others facing similar issues, which is why I am posting this.

【Overview】

In a significant number of situations, enemy footsteps are not being played.

I tried every possible combination of sound settings within the game, but the issue where sounds are not playing persists.

Even when footstep sounds are playing, they are not being played at the correct position.

【Issues】

Enemy footsteps are the most crucial element in combat.
Because enemy footsteps cannot be heard, current combat has become nothing but a series of random encounters.
This gets very tedious very quickly.
In fact, I already frequently hear people saying they're “bored” with BF6 combat, citing reasons like it being dull and lacking depth.

There may be other issues that need fixing, but the fact that enemy footsteps aren't audible must be addressed immediately.

Otherwise, it will become boring within about a year, just like XDifiant did.
This problem cannot be avoided even by adding content like maps or weapons.
Because it's a fundamental issue at the core of FPS games.

To ensure BF6 remains enjoyable for many players over the long term, we request these fixes.

Among previous titles, BFV's sound system was outstanding.
That should be the benchmark.

I'm attaching a video, but in previous Battlefield games, you would have heard enemy footsteps from the very start of the clip.

It's abnormal that the sound doesn't start until they get this close.
This makes it impossible to detect them by sound. By the time you notice and turn around, you're already shot and downed.

In the second video, there are no footsteps at all.

Video “1” shows the pattern where “footsteps are not heard.”

Video “3” shows what should be heard from the beginning.

The explanation in the text was reversed.

  • I completely agree with you; I also wrote a post about it here today. I hope our posts will be read by the developers.

If this issue is left unaddressed, users will likely leave regardless of what content is added.

I have huge issue with that. I can hear steps but there is no way to say from where they come.

  • I tested all the game's audio configurations (stereo, headset, 3D headset, etc.), night mode, wide dynamic, war archive, etc., but it's still the same... we can't hear footsteps, not even vehicles next to us, and the audio localization is 0.

    (my headset Logitech Pro X)

  • I'm having the same exact issue and I thought it was just me or my headset. I will literally have people run up on me or behind me and hear no footsteps. I've tried adjusting all the headset settings in game and nothing. I do find it odd that I hear no footsteps before I'm killed, but when they kill me I hear their footsteps. The same thing goes with tanks. I'll have a tank roll up on me and not hear it, but once he kills me, I can hear the engine etc. using a HyperX Cloud 2 wireless on PC

It would be nice when footsteps actually do work to have a slightly different sound than friendly footsteps. Many times I'll hear friendly footsteps behind me. When I turn around I find out it's a friendly and get shot in the back by an enemy.

I can have a tank up on my from behind and I don't hear it. I sometimes don't hear my own defibs. I sometimes don't hear my own gun shots. I don't hear my squad mates firing right next to me. Seems like there is a limited number of sounds at any given time and once that limit is hit, no more sounds.

Every once and awhile I get into a match and I can hear everything, it's amazing. I've heard people running up on me and could react intime to get a kill. Amazing!

Terrible sound on BF6: It's just a wall of sound, very poor directional, can't hear running boots except my own. No idea where I'm getting shot from.

I've wasted more hours trying get the sound working than playing the game.

    The sound localization is terrible.

For example, when searching for a beacon. Even if you know it exists, you have absolutely no idea about its direction or vertical position.

It often happens that you think you've found it, only to discover it was placed on a different floor above or below.

  • I completely agree with your opinion.
I've been using the Sennheiser IE 900 and FiiO K15, and I'm running into the exact same problem.
I don't think my ears are the problem because I could clearly hear footsteps in BFV.
Is the audio configuration bad? A $1700 earphones and a $550 DAC/amp? It's unacceptable. This is a deep-seated issue that is making the gaming experience boring. I earnestly hope for a solution as soon as possible.
