The solution was to repair/reinstall the game. Not a good solution, one that I do not feel like doing every time there's an update, especially when I have forgotten all my settings tweaks and the corrupting of the save file deleted it. So I know I signed up for labs, didn't get in, went to a playtest, didn't get in, so how about I don't get in to what ever testing is going on now?
