Stuck on black screen when exiting a match mid game

Happened to my son playing on his gaming laptop when he left mid match to go to bed. Had to open task manager to end task. Thought that was weird, then an hour later it happened to me on my gaming desktop. Totally different specs and GPUs etc. 

Metric overlay stayed up, otherwise a black screen, I believe menu audio was working otherwise. PC did not freeze at all, and drivers did not crash.
