The way the tank sensitivity scales still is a problem, and can be easily fixed
So for anyone who's not familiar with that tank bug, i need to preface this with a quick explanation about how the turret functions to give further context.
The turning rate of the tank turrets is hard-capped in BF, independently of your sensitivity. Those are two different systems.
You can verify this by pushing your "vehicle aim sensitivity" and "tank aim sensitivity" sliders to the max (and if you're on mouse, setting it to a bazilion DPIS for good measure), enter a tank, and turn the turret.
You'll see that it's totally impossible to trick the game into turning the turret faster.
So, now that we know that, what's the problem? Well, tanks have two different cameras : 3rd person and 1st person, and a total of 3 zoom levels :
- 3rd person
- 1st person
- 1st person zoomed
Tanks always have been only one slider to rule those three different zoom levels sensitivities, and it has never been a problem, until... BF6! Why? Well, because the way the sensitivity was scaled in previous titles was very well thought, and that's not the case in BF6
In fact, the way the sensitivity scale is totally disproportionned. You (Dice) made it better with season 3, but by watching the graph below, anyone can totally understand that it's still far from being as convenient and comfortable to play as it was in previous titles.
Basically, the scaling you're imposing forces us to nerf either our 3rd person camera or our 1st person camera when setting our sensitivity, in fact :
- Set your sensitivity so it's good in 3rd person? It's too low in 1st person, and it forces useless camera switchings and/or multiple whole mousepad sweeps, that could easily be avoided by a coherent scaling.
- Set your sensitivity so it's high enough in 1st person? It's too high in 3rd person, which makes you lose in precision.
If shooting in 3rd person wasn't possible, i'd totally understand that, but in BF, it's possible, and always has been.
Some of us grown up switching between all those cameras to make the most out of them, thanks to smart implementations of the sensitivity scaling, implementations that, by the way, became smarter and smarter with each opus.
So why, all-of-a sudden, should we accept that it changed to such extremes?
I've never seen any tank game or FPS game balance their gameplay around the scaling of their sensitivity, up until BF6, although, i doubt that you guyz decided to make it like that intentionally.
My guess would be that you guyz realised, and decided to "half-fix" it with Season 3 to avoid throwing-off players who got used to it, and that's fine. But some of us also were hoping that it would be fixed.
There was a pretty easy solution to content everyone of us : add independent sliders for each zoom level, just like infantries have.
Multiple people have reported that problem since the beta, sure, not thousands, but still multiple, and it took seven months to get "half a fix". I really feel like we're being forgotten here, and hope it won't take 7 more months to be fixed.
I know only a few players seem to be aware/care about that particular issue, but is it a reason not to fix it? We love the franchise, grew with it, and deserve bugs like this one to be fixed, or at least alternative solutions (independent sliders) to be proposed.
Dice, i love you, but for the love of everything, please...🙏 🙌
PS : To better understand the extand of the bug, this is what it feels to play tanks in season 3, "converted" into infantry settings.
Please 🙏🙏🙏
