Upgrade kits not working

When I loot a crate and find an applicable upgrade kit, I hold the associated button to use the kit, choose which upgrade I’d like, and then nothing happens. The kit stays in the crate and my weapon is not upgraded. Extremely frustrating. Sort it out!
