Konnorsport car suddenly jumped to max rating? (2player career)

Friend and I started a 2 player career at Konnorsport. After S1 we both left the team and Konnorsport never applied any upgrades in S2. Right before round 1 of S3 Konnorsport suddenly leaped all the way to the top of R&D by a large margin.
