How this feature work? I mean, what's the criteria behind it? I thought it was mostly age related, but clearly not!
Verstappen retiring after the first season is an absolute DISGRACE and it KILLS the whole career experience.

There are a few things that should have on off switches like weather, retirements, sprint races, F1 Fan Zone, F1 World Car emails but letting us individualize the way we play isn’t the EA way.
Then there should be the option to TURN retirements ON/OFF, just like "Drivers move". And even better would be this option to be activated whenever you like.
For example, if you want to drive 3 seasons against the current grid, you could activate retirements after season 4.
I sure don't mind this kind of "realism" you pointed out. Maybe Antonelli is getting tired of driving and wants to become a footballer. Let's retire him as well.
In the 6 my team careers run by my sons and me Verstappen only retired once. Twice it was Alonso, once it was Hamilton and twice no one retired in the first season.
Given the number of times Max says he’s ready to quit F1 it isn’t unrealistic to see him actually quitting because of something the FIA or the press did or because of an injury while driving the Nordschleife.
You may not like it, just like the guy who thought he signed Hamilton only to have hime retire before the next season started, but it isn’t completely unrealistic.
