Controller does not control players during online games but can navigate menu

This happens randomly and is very very annoying and totally unexpected from a paid game, let alone a game that is active for over decades. I start a game of rivals but suddenly my controller is not ...

Does your controller disconnect before the bug happens? I have this issue, it occurs if my controller disconnects, for whatever reason. Thereafter this issue occurs and is only fixed by restarting the game. Just wondering if yours is the same?
