Fullback positioning error regardless of player role
Platform: PlayStation 5
Game: EA Sports FC 26
Mode(s) affected: All gameplay modes tested (Kick-Off, Career Mode etc.)
Issue type: Tactical/AI behaviour bug
Description:
There appears to be a major issue with fullback positioning in EA FC 26. Regardless of tactical setup or player roles, fullbacks (including Attacking Wingbacks set to Attack) do not push forward when the team is in possession. They remain flat with the centre backs across all formations and tactical settings, even when using instructions such as Attacking Wingbacks, Inverted Wingbacks, or Wingbacks.
This behaviour persists whether using any formation with fullbacks and regardless of custom tactics (short passing / balanced / counter or aggressiveness of the line height et.). Adjusting the fullback position slider doesn’t sort the issue either, even if putting the fullback position to max. If makes it impossible to create overlapping runs or width from the defensive line, breaking attacking play and making build-up play extremely limited.
Steps to reproduce:
- Start any match (tested in Kick-Off and Career Mode).
- Set formation to one with fullbacks (e.g. 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 5-2-3).
- Set the player role for fullbacks as anything (e.g. Attacking Wingbacks or Wingbacks).
- Enter attacking phase with team in possession.
- Observe that both fullbacks remain deep and either stay level with the centre backs, or sometimes evening deeper. Even when the player team is in possession of the ball in the final attacking third, a RB set to Attacking Wingback and Attack will be back with their CBs, not overlapping and not advancing at all.
Expected behaviour:
Fullbacks should advance up the pitch during attacking phases according to tactical instructions of specific player roles, e.g. providing width, overlapping wingers, or cutting inside depending on the player role.
Actual behaviour:
Fullbacks stay static alongside the centre backs and rarely cross the halfway line, regardless of formation or player roles.
Impact:
This significantly breaks attacking AI and tactical realism, making modern fullback roles (overlaps, inverted runs, wide support) unusable. It is particularly noticeable when playing 5 at the back as you end up with a flat back 5 in possession.
