Brother, the whole system is upside down. The other day, in Clubs, our squad decimated a team 14-4. Our CDM earned a 10.0 rating and scored 5 goals! He DID NOT WIN POTM. Instead, it was given to the striker on the opposing team who scored all 4 goals for his team who were thoroughly thrashed 14-4. Make it make sense.
Was the relevant player on your team substituted during the match?
If so, I believe the system is designed to exclude them from consideration for that award.
No, it was myself and two of my buddies and we all started the match.
Funny that you mention subs tho because this is the first time ever, that you can sub a player into Clubs matches. They introduced it half way thru this year and it's absolutely awful! I play with two buddies who are in Eastern Europe while I'm on the North American servers and literally 9/10 times when we're playing Clubs and someone joins the match, either on our team or the opposing team, one or both of my friends get kicked out of the game. We've lost, at minimum, 20 games like this so far - several of them we were winning comfortably. It has something to do with playing with players outside of your local server but it's absolutely shocking how poorly optimized it is. If I can comfortably play the game with my friends in Eastern Europe, then there is no reason whatsoever that they should be kicked out of a game because someone else has joined it. Classic EA Devs for you.
I've mentioned it on these boards in the Bug Reports section as well, but have never receiced a response.
