Lost in PlayStation tournament

I was waiting for my opponent to start the game and the time expired. It booted back to the lobby after time expired and said I had lost. Why did I lose waiting for my opponent? It’s not fair that now I have to wait till tomorrow morning for another tournament because of the games error. Please help
