Potential Not Showing Properly in Career Mode (Scouted + Shortlisted Players)

Game Mode: Manager Career

Issue Type: UI / Career Mode Bug

After the recent updates, the EA Forum thread regarding player potential visibility was marked as “Resolved”, however the issue still appears to exist in my Career Mode save.

Problem: Even after fully scouting players and adding them to my shortlist, I still cannot see their potential status indicators such as:

“Showing Great Potential”

“Exciting Prospect”

“Has Potential to be Special”

Instead, the same UI field is replaced by contract-related information.

This affects:

transfer targets,

shortlisted players,

fully scouted players,

and existing squad players as well.

Important details:

I am checking players under 22 years old.

Scouts are fully completed.

I have tried advancing time and rechecking.

The issue persists after restarting the game.

Latest updates are installed.

From community discussions, it seems the contract-status system may now be overriding the old potential-status field. If that is intended behavior, then Career Mode scouting has become significantly less useful because players can no longer properly evaluate youth or senior squad's potential in-game.

At the moment, many users are forced to rely on external databases such as SoFIFA or FUTBIN instead of the in-game scouting system.

Can EA please clarify:

Is the potential visibility system working as intended now?

Is this still a known bug?

Are potential tags supposed to appear for shortlisted/scouted players?

Is there another menu/location where this information is now shown?

 

Would appreciate any clarification because the forum thread is marked as resolved, but the issue still appears to be happening.

    What you are experiencing is normal broken Manager Career elements that have existed for more than a decade. In the first image depicting the player already added to the Shortlist will not show potential descriptors anymore (Showing Great Potential, etc.), they are only visible in the top right corner of the player card, before you click on 'Add to Shortlist'. Basically, either only add high potential players to Shortlist, or memorize which ones have greater that 83 potential ratings. For the second image in your post, everything is listed properly, however, the player shown has been altered by the game engine after acquiring the player from the Transfer Market with the player potential rating arbitrarely dropping below the high potential threshold. For example, you fully scout a player with a potential rating between 78-86 and player card says 'Showing Great Potential', but after signing player, the game assesses a final potential rating of 79 or 80, which drops the player to regular (Joined Club in 2025). In every Manager Career mode save all player top potential ratings are randomized slightly, you can buy the same player in ten different saves, and four times will be 'Showing Great Potential', and the other six times will be regular. This happens most often when promoting youth players to the senior squad before fully scouting; initial potential rating of 74-91 then after promoting becomes a final rating of 80 or 81. On a side note, you will never know the final player potential rating after they join the club, until after playing or simulating matches for years when their development growth becomes all nuetral flat lines with no upward facing arrows for any attributes.
