Crashing due to memory leak

Monitoring Task Manager while playing shows that the game uses about 8-10GB of RAM when the game launches, and this steadily increases over 15-45 minutes to upwards of 25-30gb and eventually crashes with a DirectX error and popup about there being no more memory available.

Changing graphics settings doesn't seem to make a difference.

  • RAM: 32GB

Are you using the in-game vsync to cap the frames? If so, try using AMD Chill or Nvidia's equivalent instead

Been having crashes all of the sudden, I check performance stats and within not even 30 mins my RAM is nearly full. The game crashes when it gets to about 30gb of ram usage.

    GPU: RX 7800xt

    RAM: 32gb DDR4

Still managed to get a DirectX memory crash while FPS was capped to 65 using Radeon Chill

Okay, think I've found a fix!

I noticed that even when just sat in the settings menu not doing anything, Skate's system RAM usage was climbing by something like 100mb every 5 seconds, and this would continue until Skate was consuming upwards of 20-25gb RAM, and eventually the game would crash.

But when swapping the Upscaling Method from XeSS Balanced to either FSR Balanced or None, Skate's RAM usage no longer climbs, and sits at a stable number. So far this seems to be around either 4gb or 9.5gb, depending on garbage collection events.

The RAM usage continues to be just as stable even after disabling Radeon Chill and running the game at 120-140fps.

    Hope this helps.

Nice! I've been running 90fps cap with FSR native now and haven't had a single crash in a couple of days. It seems to change from machine to machine though

Locking the games framerate to 60fps with Radeon Chill has removed all crashes for me. I haven't tested anything higher like the other people here, but I'm just happy I don't need to restart every 20 mins lol

Fixed the issue for my particular system, my ram was unstable.

    my kit was KLEVV DDR5 6000 - 28-36-36-76 @ 1.4v

Switched it to 30-36-36-76 @ 1.4v and the issue fixed itself,

At 1440p it does not reach more than 5.5gbs of usage now, only the 30-36-36-76 Ram sticks where QVL verified on my specific motherboard.
